Letter from the President
Last month, I wrote about the importance of prioritizing interpersonal connections and maintaining peer-to-peer communication to provide resilience in our rapidly changing academic environment. Of these changes, funding delays, freezes and grant terminations reduce our ability to bring innovative treatments to patients, but potentially will have long-term impacts on the next generation of translational scientists. Through the Stand Up for Science, Research!America, CCTS advocacy and other campaigns, I am optimistic that there will be attention and support for translational science. In the meantime, it's vital that we support ourselves and our colleagues. A fantastic opportunity to connect with peers awaits at ACTS Translational Science 2025, happening in Washington, DC, from April 14–17. This program continues to grow in both attendance and impact. On the afternoon of April 14, nine Special Interest Groups (SIGs) will convene, followed by the State-of-the-Field presentation and a welcome reception. The enthusiasm and sense of community that the SIGs bring to this event are truly inspiring. Poster and networking sessions provide opportunities for attendees to meet and connect. Mark your calendar - TS25 is an incredible chance to network, exchange advice, and share experiences.

Neurostimulation shows promise as potential Alzheimer's treatment
Repeated sessions of electrical stimulation to brain networks associated with memory improved verbal learning in some Alzheimer’s disease patients for up to eight weeks in a preliminary trial led by UT Southwestern Medical Center researchers. The findings, published in The Journal of Prevention of Alzheimer’s Disease, indicate that while future trials are needed, neurostimulation shows early promise as a treatment for Alzheimer’s and other neurodegenerative disorders, such as Lewy body dementia.
