Letter from the President
I am excited about attending next week’s Translational Science 2025 meeting focusing on “Integrating Data To Power Translation”. Our Executive Director and ACTS staff have been working closely with the Translational Science Committee Chair, Dr. Meinzen-Derr and the TS25 Program committee to make this an exciting, engaging and interactive event. Our schedule includes 53 scientific sessions, 2 keynote presentations, 580 posters and 48 oral presentations. We will have the opportunity to see the great progress that our Special Interest Groups (SIGs) have been making in the State of the Field reception on Monday. Here, we will have the opportunity to hear the exciting developments in the Team Science Professionals SIG with their new digital certificate program. On Tuesday, I’m pleased that we have had a robust participation in Hill Day with the goal of delivering a consistent message of the impact and importance of continued, stable investment in NIH and NCATS. Hope to see you there!
Allan Brasier, MD

CCTSI Research Seeks to Establish Safe Oral Antibiotic Doses for Infants
Newborns are at a high risk of developing serious infections, and the standard treatment is often intravenous (IV) antibiotics. However, this method poses significant downsides, including longer hospital stays and potential IV-related complications and side effects. It also disrupts critical periods of breastfeeding and parental bonding. Andrew Haynes, MD, a pediatrician specializing in infectious diseases at Children’s Hospital Colorado, saw this as a barrier to providing optimal care for his youngest patients. He believes oral antibiotics could be a better alternative in many cases, but safe and effective doses for infants under 60 days old have not yet been established.
