Letter from the JCTS Editor
We continue to live in unprecedented times. And we continue to thrive despite the uncertainty. I am continually inspired by the rapid pace of discovery. The constant attention of exceptional research teams to solving society’s pressing problems is extraordinary, even when the funding landscape is shifting. I am often made aware of new opportunities and new directions for clinical and translational researchers to advance knowledge and the health of society - opportunities driven by industry, philanthropy, government, and individuals. At times of uncertainty, I am reminded of the wisdom of a diversified portfolio. I am also reminded that in uncertainty lies opportunity.
Our progress in science, technology, AI, and medicine is outpacing society. As the promises of a healthy future are just beginning to unfold, discoveries are occurring at an ever-increasing pace. Streamlined clinical and translational research methods and process, optimized for the question at hand, can support the acceleration. Adoption of new technologies such as generative AI into clinical research is enabled by guidance such as those issued by the FDA. As the opportunities abound, so does the risk. Not only can we accelerate health improvement, but we can violate public trust in science and medicine. Never has it been more important to protect the integrity of science.
The Journal of Clinical and Translational Science is committed to disseminating information that has been reviewed and vetted by experts. These experts are your colleagues, and they are you. As we continue to publish on major advances, we rely on your involvement as authors and reviewers to not only report scientific progress, but to debate and advocate for our scientific priorities. As such, we encourage the submission of balanced perspectives that advance scientific discourse and we look forward to engaging with you, our community, in advancing the rigor of our evidence base.

SC CTSI KL2 scholar makes debut as a children's book author
This past summer, SC CTSI KL2 scholar Melissa Bent, MD made her debut as a children’s book author with the picture book, “ABCs of Women in Medicine: Inspiring Future Healthcare Heroes.” Her aim is to introduce young children, primarily between the ages of four and seven, to different specialties in medicine. In her book, each letter emphasizes a different, diverse woman physician. The book would work to fill a gap Bent discovered while reading to her own three-year-old daughter.
